Just two weeks ago, I embarked on a journey from Benin to Lagos.
I was traveling for an event I'd longed anticipated.
I literally spent the night packing all my luggage just so I could catch the first bus.
Little did I know that this journey would take an unexpected turn, putting me in a situation I don't like.
Here's what happened:
As I arrived at the park, ready to secure the best seat, I overheard a shocking announcement:
The transport fare had skyrocketed to ₦18,000!
Haba from ₦9,500?
My eyes widened in disbelief, and my heart sank.
I looked at the driver, then to my wallet
I only had ₦15,000 as cash with me.
Usually, I'm not the guy that travels a lot with cash because I believe there's going to be POS in any bus park.
But the only POS stand in the park that day was locked
I couldn't leave the park to search for another because I was the only person left for the bus to move.
If I wasted any more time, I do have to wait for another 18 setters to get filled up.
So I decided to go through the “plea route."
I went to the driver and pleaded with him to at least take the balance in transfer, but my plea fell on deaf ears.
What was I supposed to do now?
Fortunately, amid my distress, a kind-hearted gentleman came to my rescue and I had to transfer to him instead.
Which means if all I had was just the money for my T-fare...
and didn't have any other money in my bank,
I would have just gone back and missed out on the opportunity to take me to Lagos.
